Nature Morte Rero

Creating work halfway between urban art and conceptual art, Rero  questions the context of art as well as the codes that govern images and intellectual property with an acronym that regularly crops up in his pieces: WYSIWYG (What You See Is  What You Get).  Appropriation and self-censorship — he strikes his slogans with a thick line — are key concepts in his exploration of image negation. ~  Backslash Gallery

You’re looking at the mating call of New Zealand’s female Arachnocampa luminosa (glowworms), by Joseph Michael

Oh wow. This is just… wow.

The Arachnocampa luminosa glowworms (don’t they sound like a spell out of Harry Potter?) only live a few days as adults, the entire time suspended from the ceiling on a thread of silk. They never feed past their larval stage, the females emitting blue luminescence, nature’s enzyme-driven biochemical radiance, to attract a male so that they may accomplish their only adult purpose: creating the next generation. That brief life is a limited one, but it results in these beautiful, rarely-seen light shows, so I’d say it’s a worthwhile one.

For more stunning views of these glowing wonders, check out AMPLITUDE, an epic time-lapse video from Martin Heck/Timestorm Films. Seriously, you won’t be sorry. Just skip to about 3:00 and you’ll see what I mean:
